1930
During the 1930s men’s fashion was being affect by the great depression. Men wore much bigger suits than the men today. They wore “drape cut suits and but their pants leg as slightly tapered at the calf. Suits didn’t come in as many colors as they had in the 1920s, maybe to show every ones mind state at the time. They also wore fedoras.
1940-50
In the early 1940s the government restricted the use of wool. Men’s suits were often double breasted. As time passed and the fabric restrictions eased pants (trousers) became much roomier. Elvis was definitely an influential person during this time especially with hairstyle.
1960s
During the 1960s suits started to become more colorful and vibrant. Ties were wider and suits had different looks to them. Collarless jackets were being worn and people were beginning to be affected more by actors and musicians, mainly the Beetles. Also skinny jeans came into the picture, thanks to the help of Audrey Hepburn.
1970’s
In the 70’s platform shoes were invented and like the skinny jeans both men and wore them. Many unisex fashion styles were in like flared pants and jeans. The three-piece disco look was also in style. Graphic tees also started to come into play in the late 70’s.
1980’s
Bold colors and graphic patterns were in style during the 80’s. The silhouette of the 80’s didn’t change much from the 70’s. Men and women both began wearing loose tops while having tighter fitting bottoms. Long hair was fashionable. People became influenced by the show Miami vice and its look, which consisted of a casual tee with an expensive bright blazer over top. The Hawaiian shirt became popular because of Magnum P.I. People were also affected by the preppy look of the 1950s.
1990’s
In the 1990’s the baggy silhouette came back. Men were more comfortable in the office with roomier clothing. The grunge look became a popular casual look, with things such as flannel, acid wash denim jackets, black leather jackets and polo shirts. The hip-hop look was also in style in urban communities with things such as oversized shirts, basketball jerseys, baggy pants, Jordan’s, and track suits.
2000’s
During the 2000s people were influence by different eras. People mix and matched different eras to create their own style. Things like acid washed denim jeans became popular which reflected the 80’s and 90’s. Leather jackets came back in style so did windbreakers. Two button blazers and slim fit suits became popular.
2010-
The fashion from 2010 seems to be a continuation of the 2000’s. A lot of retro sneakers are being recycled by Jordan and other big name brands and layering is very popular in the colder weathers. People are tending to stray away from quantity and aim for quality, which can some time be much pricier. There are many different ways to get a hold of clothing from all over the world. Many more people are into fashion and clothing companies tend to release limited amounts of clothing.
